East View is a renovation and addition to an existing lake camp in North Ferrisburg, Vermont. The original structure is from the late 1800s. The existing 1400 square-foot camp became a 2000 square-foot camp after the remodel and addition. In the design of East View, the clients wanted a comfortable place to retire for six months of the year and a place large enough to entertain and have overnight guests. The integrity of the original building was to remain and be seen from the exterior and interior. The new design provides a more graceful flow of energy through the house and can now accommodate more visitors in the house comfortably. The living room overtook the south end of the porch to make a larger room. The west wall of the house was moved out three feet to allow for a more workable kitchen and eat-in dining area. The screened porch on the east side (lake side) remained and a balcony was added upstairs. The first floor added more storage and a computer area, a master bedroom, and more windows to allow views of the lake from all areas of the house. Upstairs, a large stair landing is also a library. An additional bath, bedroom, and bunk room were added to accommodate the client’s numerous guests. The interior is all pine paneling, plywood paneled ceilings, and upstairs the two bedrooms are hardiboard panels. This use of materials inside kept the same feel of the camp as well as building with materials that will withstand a large temperature swing because it is closed up in the winter season.
