1504 Norris is an approximately 3,000 square foot remodel of a 1970’s-era home located in the Barton Hills neighborhood in Austin, Texas. The owners were new to the Austin area and shopped for an ideal location with DK Studio in the Zilker / Barton Hills neighborhoods as they wished to be located in that area of Austin. The house sits on a beautiful lot with many grand oak trees, rock outcroppings, and a sloping terrain. This setting was perfect for a growing family. The house was in a dilapidated state when purchased and required a complete overhaul of interior finishes, walls, windows, and roof. The main floor was redesigned to create a very open floor plan and also more windows to invite the tree canopy and light into the house. The kitchen, living, and dining were designed to be very fluid in plan. A small addition of a half-bath and mud room were added that also connect to the outdoor porch facing the northwest. Sustainable design materials and methods were embraced through careful selection of interior finishes such as bamboo flooring and also energy-saving devices such as an instantaneous hot water heater. |
