This 4500 square-foot residence is designed for a family of four on a beautiful wooded site in west Austin. The design intent was to develop an architectural style for the house based on the prarie and bungalow styles. The orientation of the house focuses on the large wooded back yard and the appropriate positioning for solar heat gain and predominant breezes on the back porch. This family entertains a lot with large dinner parties and social gatherings. The back porch becomes another exterior entertainment room with a large fireplace for Austin winter gatherings. There are many special design features in the house, such as an outdoor kitchen, an art studio, a master bedroom retreat with a small study and exercise porch, stained glass windows, and a porte-cochère. The interior design of the house also incorporates many prairie and bungalow style elements with the use of trim and varying ceiling heights.
