| This ranch house is a new weekend retreat in a beautiful, remote getaway spot located in the hills of Palo Pinto County, Texas. The intent of this home is to pass through generations of family, as has the land already. Part of making it so integral with the site was actually using materials from the land. We used cedar trees from the site, as seen along the front porch, and inside the great room. Stone from the site wraps the entire base of the house and in the interior of the house at the fireplace, stairs, and around the kitchen island. At approximately 1500 square feet, the floor plan is a very efficient use of space with two bedrooms, two baths, a loft and an open living–dining–kitchen. The west wall contains a large percentage of glass to optimize views and natural daylight. Trees line the west elevation to provide shade. A rainwater collection system provides all of the potable and non-potable water for the house. |
